Blade Runner Blend

From: $16.75

Very bright as an espresso while also light enough to be delicious as a filter coffee much like you would find in many leading Scandinavian coffee bars.

Berries, Cherries, Sweet and Sticky

Bright, juicy notes of lemon citrus, florals, and tropical berry sweetness.  Not the usual rich chocolates and caramels you would expect to find in our espresso roasts, but a very interesting foray into a new style of coffee blend for us.

As the Specialty Coffee market develops, new doors open. Currently, we have blends which represent the origins of espresso with roast profiles matching Southern Italy, Northern Italy, and Australia.  Over the last few years, there has been the emergence of a new style of roasting and blending which has been spurred on by new wave roasters in Scandinavia.  Of particular note is a handful of Norwegian roasters who have based their espresso styles on a roast profile that is much lighter than what was previously the norm.  High acid coffee profiles became commonplace in “3rd wave” specialty coffee as a result of the success of the Scandinavian trailblazers. This new blend: The Blade Runner is our tribute to this exciting movement.

Our master blenders and roasters have collaborated on a 12-month project to develop this Nordic coffee blend which runs on a knife edge between rich, dark espresso roasts and ultra-bright, juicy filter roasts.  The coffees used in the blend are high acid Kenyan AA and Ethiopians with a touch of Brazil and we have roasted this as light as we could ever imagine for espresso coffee.  The result is intense, and certainly not for traditionalists, but we are having a great time running it through our home machines and our pour-overs in the stores too.  This is cutting edge.  This is blade running in our coffee world and we hope you enjoy tasting what Scandinavian coffee has to offer.
