About this Single Origin Espresso Coffee

Intense levels of panela like sweetness balanced by a vibrant citric acidity, this coffee perfectly captures one of our favourite profiles out of Costa Rica and a signature of this particular farm.

We were first introduced to the Barrantes family through Cup of Excellence after purchasing the #1 winning lot from Manuel Barrantes in 2015.

That year he won with a washed Kenia variety and we bought it the following 3 years both in and out of the auction under the farm name Leoncio or mill Herbazu.

This year, we are carrying that tradition through the family in purchasing that same variety from Carlos, Barrantes the son of Manuel.

The Barrantes family are famous in Costa Rica for being key instigators and pioneers in the micro mill revolution of the early 2000s.

By localizing the milling process, producers had greater control over each stage of the coffee production cycle allowing them to more intricately showcase their own style of coffee. By removing the involvement of other milling companies, this also added greater levels of transparency and increased returns direct to the producer.
